A 3-day moderate to difficult hike through the mountainous countryside between Quetzaltenango and Lago Atitlan, staying with local indigenous families en route

We leave Quetzaltenango at 6am to journey 30 minutes in minibus to Xecam where we begin the trail. The first day we start at an altitude of 2350 meters and hike about 7 hours. We hike up to the highest point of the trek to 3100 meters and then descend to 2200 meters where we spend the first night with the families. Day 2 is about 8 hours hiking, starting with a descent down to 1400 meters and then a climb to 2200 meters and down a little way to 2100 meters where we spend the second night. Day 3 we hike 3-4 hours. This final day we descend down to the Lake at 1500m to San Juan La Laguna, where we're then transported to San Pedro in pickup where we finish, approx. 11am.
Included: Guide, all transport until San Pedro, 2 liters water (after that we purify our water en route), accommodation (incl. sleeping bag) staying with local indifenous families, 6 meals (from lunch day 1 to breakfast day 3)
You need to bring: good walking shoes, mosquito repellent, sun block, extra clothing, big backpack (50 + 15 liters) as you will be helping to carry everything, waterproofs in rainy season.
NB. If you want to return to xela we can arrange this for you but it's not included in the price. We can also organize for your extra luggage to be baken to San Pedro but this costs extra.
