
A 1 day hike to the sacred and spiritual volcano and its crater lake at the top, set above the indigenous communities of San Martin Sacatepéquez

We leave Quetzaltenango at 6am and travel 45 minutes in mini-bus to the village of San Martin Chile Verde. Once at the top we stay a good while to explore the lake and view points. It is considered a sacred place for the indigenous Mayan people who inhabit the surrounding villages and scattered around the laguna are many Mayan religious ceremony sites that we will visit. Then it’s another 2 hours down and return in bus back to Quetzaltenango about 1pm.
